CRISTIAN HERROJO RECEIVES ONE OF THE EXTRAORDINARY DOCTORATE AWARDS
The PhD thesis "Nuevas estrategias para el diseño de sistemas Chipless-RFID y aplicaciones"(New strategies for the design of Chipless-RFID systems and applications), by Cristian Herrojo, has been awarded with one of the UAB Extraordinary Doctorate Awards of the academic year 2017/18.
Its main objective is to develop different Chipless-RFID strategies or systems to increase information capacity, contributing to the advance and development of this technology. It also focuses on applying the different strategies provided in a real environment. Mainly, its applicability in documentary security and/or authentication is demonstrated (to avoid falsifications or copies of official documents, examinations, ballots, medical prescriptions, etc.), for the development of angular velocity sensors, or working as presence sensors with identification capability.
FERRAN PAREDES RECEIVES ONE OF THE 2019 RFID-TA CONFERENCE AWARDS
The researcher of CIMITEC-UAB has received one of the IEEE International Conference on RFID Technology and Applications (RFID-TA 2019) Best Article Awards. The conference was held between September 25 and 27 in Pisa (Italy). The work presented by Paredes is entitled "An approach for Synchronous Reading of Near-Field Chipless-RFID Tags", and has Cristian Herrojo and Ferran Martín as co-authors.

FERRAN MARTÍN RECEIVES ICREA ACADEMIA AWARD
Director of CIMITEC-UAB received one of the awards granted by the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), within the call 2018 of the ICREA Academia Programme.
The ICREA Acadèmia programme focuses on intensifying research for lecturers currently giving classes and who are in the active and expansion phase of their career. The money awarded to each of the winners is 40.000 Euros annually during five years.
On the occasion of this distinction, Ferran Martín has been interviewed for the Youtube channel of the School of Engineering of the UAB.

The article " Common-mode Suppression in Microstrip Differential Lines by Means of Complementary Split Ring Resonators: Theory and Applications ", published in IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques in October 2012 in collaboration with members of Microwave Group of Universidad de Sevilla, obtained the Universidad de Sevilla Award to relevant research works. TATSUO ITOH AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE BY UAB
Tatsuo Itoh, Professor at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the UAB. Itoh is one of the most influential researchers in the field of radio frequency and microwave engineering. The patron for the ceremony was Ferran Martín, director of CIMITEC. This is the first Honorary Doctorate ever to be proposed by the School of Engineering of the UAB.

BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD IN MMS 2014 CONFERENCE
The work " Comparative Analysis of Split Ring Resonators (SRR), Electric-LC (ELC) Resonators, and S-Shaped Split Ring Resonators (S-SRR) ", by Jordi Naqui, Jan Coromina, Ali K. Horestani, Christophe Fumeaux and Ferran Martín, won the Yarman-Carlin Best Student Paper Award, in the 14th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (MMS), hold in Marrakech (Morocco) in December 2014.

MIGUEL DURÁN-SINDREU HAS OBTAINED THE "YOUNG ENGINEER PRIZE" AT EuMC 2012
Miguel Durán-Sindreu, researcher of CIMITEC, won the Young Engineer Prize at the European Microwave Conference 2012, held in Amsterdam beetween October 29th and November 1st, presenting the work entitled " Novel Fully-Planar Extended -Composite Right/Left Handed Transmission Line based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide for Multi-Band Applications " . The prize awards the best work presented by a researcher aged 30 or younger.

FERRAN MARTÍN, FELLOW OF THE IEEE
Ferran Martín, director of CIMITEC, has been elevated to the degree of Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to metamaterial-based transmission lines for microwave applications. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. 321 individuals have been elevated to IEEE Fellow for 2011.
METAMATERIALS 2011 IN BARCELONA
The Fifth International Congress on Advanced Electromagnetic Materials in Microwaves and Optics (Metamaterials 2011) was held at the Hotel Barceló-Sants in Barcelona between 10 and 13 October 2011. This event, organized by Metamorphose – Virtual Institute and CIMITEC, was attended by over 380 scientists from 33 different countries and more than 350 works with the latest developments in the field were presented. In the two days following the conference was held the 19th Doctoral School in Metamaterials, where six recognized professors, including the members of CIMITEC Ferran Martín and Jordi Bonache, made their presentations in front of about fifty people.

METAMATERIALS WEEK 2008 IN BARCELONA
From February 5 to February 8, 2008 will be held the "Metamaterials Week 2008" in Casa Convalescència in Barcelona. This event, organized by CIMITEC, Metamorphose NoE and the Spanish Network on Metamaterials (REME), comprises the 9th European Doctoral School on Metamaterials, focused on applications of metamaterials in RF/microwave circuits, and the 2nd "Young Scientist Meeting on Metamaterials", a conference where young researchers on this field will be able to present their works and exchanging opinions.
CIMITEC, AWARDED WITH DURAN FARELL PRIZE
CIMITEC has been awarded with the Duran Farell Prize for Technological Research. This Prize has been given by the Social Council of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and Gas Natual SDG to Ferran Martín and his team formed by Jordi Bonache Albacete, Joan García García, Ignacio Gil Galí, Marta Gil Barba and Francisco Aznar Ballesta.
